GOVERNMENT WARNS CEMENT MANUFACTURERS AGAINST MARKET MANIPULATION
- Warns of legal action against manufacturers found engaging in market manipulation.
- Urges producers to ensure cement reaches consumers at fair and affordable prices.
The Minister for Industry and Trade, Hon. Judith Kapinga (MP), has urged cement manufacturers across the country to refrain from practices that distort the market, including manipulating cement prices.
Hon. Kapinga made the remarks in Mbeya Region during her visit to Mbeya Cement Factory, where she inspected production operations, listened to the challenges facing the company, and explored opportunities for growth within the industrial sector.
She emphasised that the Government is closely monitoring the cement market and will take appropriate legal action against any manufacturer or cement factory found engaging in market manipulation.
The Minister further called on manufacturers to increase production and ensure that cement is readily available to consumers, particularly ordinary citizens, at fair and affordable prices through their authorised distribution networks.
In addition to visiting Mbeya Cement Factory, Hon. Kapinga toured the G&B Mattress Factory and Tanzania Breweries Limited (TBL). She stressed that the Government would not allow business challenges to remain unresolved, noting that visits to production facilities provide an important opportunity to listen to stakeholders’ concerns, identify investment and growth opportunities, and develop practical strategies to address the challenges facing the industrial sector.
She reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to engaging directly with manufacturers and other stakeholders to strengthen industrial growth, improve market efficiency, and ensure that businesses operate in a fair and competitive environment.
