Building decent homes for a well-off nation
As Tanzania advances toward inclusive growth and infrastructure modernization, one truth is becoming increasingly evident: housing is no longer a peripheral issue—it is central to national transformation. At the heart of this shift stands the National Housing Corporation (NHC), an institution redefining how Tanzanians live, work, and envision their future.
From the administrative capital of Dodoma to the bustling corridors of Dar es Salaam, from the mineral-rich lands of Mirerani to the quiet resilience of Kagera, NHC is not merely constructing buildings—it is engineering a new social and economic order.

A New chapter begins
Transforming the Capital: Samia Iyumbu Apartments – Dodoma
In Dodoma, a city undergoing profound transformation into a modern administrative center, NHC is developing the Samia Iyumbu Apartments — a housing project with over 300 units. The development boasts a contemporary design tailored to family needs and is strategically located near essential services such as roads, water, electricity, schools, and health centers.
Boosting commercial infrastructure: Mtanda Complex – Dar es Salaam
In Dar es Salaam, the Mtanda Commercial Complex is nearing completion, with 98% of construction works already finished. Valued at TZS 4.2 billion, it is set to become a new commercial hub, providing high-demand office spaces, retail outlets, and community services.
Revitalizing the North: Mkwakwani Housing Project in Tanga
After years of limited investment in modern housing, Tanga is now home to the Mkwakwani Housing Project, worth over TZS 7 billion. This project not only expands access to housing but also creates employment for local youth, artisans, and materials suppliers.
Addressing the middle income market: Samia Kijichi Housing Scheme in Temeke
In Temeke District, Dar es Salaam, the Samia Kijichi Housing Scheme is under development, aiming to deliver over 300 units for middle-income earners. The initiative addresses the housing gap while ensuring residents have access to reliable infrastructure.
Regional Growth Through Housing:
2F Project in Singida Municipality
The year 2025 signals a new phase in the Corporation’s history. During a special inspection tour by the Minister for Lands, Housing and Human Settlements Development, Hon. Dr. Leonard Akwilapo, NHC’s Director of Construction, Eng. Godwin Maro, outlined the Corporation’s wide-ranging projects, all aligned with the government’s ambition to provide every Tanzanian with access to safe, decent, and affordable housing.
The 2F Project in Singida has completed its ground floor slab casting and is steadily progressing. It is a regional economic stimulant, involving local contractors, suppliers, and service providers while enhancing housing access.
Supporting the Minerals Sector: Modern Minerals Market – Mirerani
In Mirerani, Manyara Region, NHC is constructing a Modern Minerals Market, designed to provide a secure, efficient trading environment for Tanzanite and other minerals. This investment is a key component of the government’s drive to formalize and grow the mineral trade.
Mixed-Use Developments: 2H Plaza – Morogoro

The 2H Plaza Project in Morogoro, valued at TZS 2.6 billion, combines commercial and residential spaces. The project has already attracted buyers, reflecting public confidence in NHC’s quality and delivery track record.
Bridging the Gap in the West: Kashozi Project – Kagera Region
In Kagera, the Kashozi Project is addressing the region’s long-standing housing deficit. With an estimated value of TZS 1.8 billion, it is expanding access to modern, affordable homes in remote areas.
Serving Public Servants: Njendengwa Project in Dodoma
Back in Dodoma, the Njendengwa Housing Project is providing over 120 units for the city’s growing number of public and private sector employees. The development supports the government’s efforts to decentralize and expand public services.
Reviving regional economies: Tabora Commercial Complex
In Tabora, NHC is building a modern business center to bring services closer to residents and stimulate local commerce. The project reflects NHC’s commitment to spreading development to underserved towns and regions.
Expanding Urban Commerce: Meru Shops – Arusha
To meet growing demand in Arusha, the Meru Shops Project has been upgraded to a double-storey facility. The project supports small and medium-sized enterprises and enhances local government revenue streams.
Preserving existing assets, upgrading legacy estates
NHC is also rehabilitating older housing estates nationwide. Works include infrastructure upgrades, improved utility systems, and aesthetic enhancements using modern construction technologies. These upgrades are essential to maintaining the value and functionality of existing assets.
A Flagship Development: Samia Housing Scheme – Kawe
In Kawe, Dar es Salaam, the large-scale Samia Housing Scheme has already delivered over 560 homes, with another 560 units soon to follow. It exemplifies NHC’s capability to deliver high-quality, affordable housing at scale.
Supporting Trade and Storage: Warehousing Projects
Recognizing the role of logistics in economic growth, NHC is constructing three modern warehouses to support local businesses with secure, well-managed storage solutions. These projects add value to the Corporation’s income-generating portfolio.
Building a Nation, One Home at a Time

The evidence is clear, NHC is not merely constructing buildings, but actively shaping a more inclusive and prosperous Tanzania. Its projects deliver dignity, opportunity, and economic growth to communities across the nation.
Through a combination of innovation, strategic planning, and public trust, the National Housing Corporation is making the dream of decent housing a reality for thousands of Tanzanians.
With unwavering commitment and national impact, NHC stands as a true partner in the country’s development journey, proving that decent housing is not a distant goal, but a foundation we are already building today.
