The National Housing Corporation (NHC) is strengthening its efforts to help more Tanzanians own quality homes by expanding partnerships with financial institutions, in line with President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s vision of making decent housing more accessible to citizens.
NHC Director-General Hamad Abdallah announced this on 16 October 2026 during the climax of Customer Service Week at the site of the corporation’s Kawe 711 residential development in Dar es Salaam. He said the corporation was working with more than 20 banks to make home ownership easier for Tanzanians living both in the country and abroad.
Under the arrangements, eligible buyers can access housing finance by paying an initial deposit of 10 per cent of the purchase price, with the property itself serving as collateral for the mortgage, subject to the participating bank’s terms and conditions.
“We want to fulfil Her Excellency President Dr Samia Suluhu Hassan’s vision of enabling more Tanzanians to own quality homes. This is achievable through strong partnerships between NHC and banks that provide mortgage financing to Tanzanians living at home and in the diaspora,” Hamad said.
He explained that the initiative was designed to address one of the major barriers to home ownership: the difficulty of raising the full purchase price or providing separate collateral to secure a loan.
Through the partnerships, buyers can access longer repayment periods, with mortgage terms extended from the previous three to five years to between 20 and 25 years, depending on the financing arrangement offered by the participating bank.
Hamad said NHC was continuing to strengthen its collaboration with financial institutions to widen access to housing finance and enable more citizens to acquire homes without having to pay the entire purchase price upfront.
“We want more Tanzanians to become homeowners, and banks are important partners in achieving this ambition,” he emphasised.
Kawe 711 sets a new standard for modern living
Beyond expanding access to home ownership, Hamad urged prospective buyers to take advantage of the Kawe 711 project, describing it as a modern residential development designed to combine comfortable living with recreational and social amenities.
He said the development would provide parking spaces for homeowners, while separate parking facilities would be available for visitors, helping to improve convenience and organisation within the residential complex.
“This is the first residential housing development of its kind, featuring rooftop sports facilities and swimming pools. It will also include spaces where homeowners can access essential social and commercial services, including shops and banking services,” he said.
The development includes basketball and table-tennis facilities, providing residents with opportunities to participate in physical activities, maintain their health and reduce the risk of preventable diseases.
The combination of residential, recreational and commercial facilities is intended to create a more convenient living environment, allowing residents to access selected services and leisure activities within the development.
Homeowners expected to celebrate Christmas in their new homes
Hamad also offered prospective homeowners encouraging news regarding the completion of the project, saying buyers could look forward to celebrating Christmas and the New Year in their new homes.

He explained that the remaining work was focused on completing the social and commercial service areas within the development, as the corporation moved towards making the residential facilities ready for occupation.
The anticipated move-in period would mark an important milestone for buyers seeking modern homes in Dar es Salaam, while demonstrating NHC’s continued efforts to expand the supply of quality housing.
Through developments such as Kawe 711 and its partnerships with financial institutions, NHC is seeking to address both the availability and affordability of housing, supporting the wider ambition of enabling more Tanzanians to secure decent homes.
