SPEAKER: THE WORLD MUST WORK TOGETHER; NO SIDE CAN PROSPER WITHOUT THE OTHER

ARUSHA, TANZANIA
Speaker of the Parliament of Tanzania, Hon. Mussa Azzan Zungu, has called for greater global cooperation in addressing emerging challenges, stressing that no part of the world can prosper in isolation from others.
Addressing the 153rd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in Arusha, Speaker Zungu said the world faces shared challenges that require collective solutions, with parliaments playing a vital role in promoting dialogue, understanding and cooperation among nations.
Speaking before more than 1,500 Speakers and parliamentarians from around the world, he said parliaments provide an important platform for transforming differences through dialogue and reconciling competing interests through constructive debate.
“We share one humanity and a common destiny. We do not have a Global South problem or a Global North problem. We have a human problem, and it requires a human solution,” Speaker Zungu said.
He noted that different regions possess resources and capabilities that can complement one another, creating opportunities for mutually beneficial partnerships and shared development.
“The North has technology and capital, while the South has resources, young people and resilience. No side can prosper without the other,” he said.
Speaker Zungu further stressed that the world should not be viewed as two separate entities, but as one interconnected community whose future depends on cooperation and the effective utilisation of complementary strengths.
“We are not two worlds; we are one world seeking to build a common future for humanity. The critical minerals beneath Africa and Latin America can power the green future being developed in Europe and America. The young people of the South can drive the economies of the North,” he stressed.
